Enjoying the Holidays with Pepto-Bismol. #PinkRelief

When I was younger I would eat a lot, I mean a lot.  I would always get double burgers or eat two burgers with a large drink and fries. I was sort of active with work and taking a martial arts class, so I never really had any stomach problems with eating all of this food. I would burn all of it off within a few classes...or so I thought.

As I got older things started to change. My eating habits were not as lavish and I would occasionally develop heartburn because of some of my food choices. Luckily, I would get help for my upset stomach with my new friend Pepto-Bismol. Pepto-Bismol became a regular staple in my refrigerator.

100 years of Disney Magic! How long is this show going to be? #giveaway

DISNEY ON ICE: 100 YEARS OF MAGIC is coming to the Chicagoland-area and we are so excited to go.  We've mentioned before that love we attending these shows.  There is nothing like the feeling of watching all of your favorite Disney characters come to life before your eyes and reenact scenes from their respective movies.  This year's show is going to be amazing to see how they cover 100 years of Disney magic.

The Fandads dress up for the holidays #sponsored

Look at that couple in the picture above.  You would think that they are always dressed up and going to all the trendiest places, but that is the complete opposite. The PlayCHIC fashion show was the one time where we both were able to dress up and I got to represent Fandads with my Star Wars Rebel Insignia tie that I purchased at Cufflinks.com.

Now while I like to dress up every now and then, I am not a fashion blogger.  When I worked as a teacher, I would always come into the classroom with a shirt, tie and dress pants.  Occasionally I would show up wearing a pair of jeans to class and it would blow the kids minds that I actually owned a pair.

The BFG trailer looks spooky good!

I remember reading THE BFG when I was in elementary school. I was such a big fan of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that I pretty much wanted to read everything that Roald Dahl wrote. When I read THE BFG, I thought it would be really cool to have a giant for a friend. I mean, imagine how easy it would be to travel or get something off the top shelf?

Playing with toys at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair #ChiTAG

A few weeks ago the Fandads took part in Chicago Toy and Game Week and it was a blast like always.  We saw some amazing fashions and played with some pretty cool toys. Here is a quick recap of what went down that fun filled weekend.

"Who wants $20?" Free screening of DADDY'S HOME in Chicago!

The last time Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were together in a movie it was in an off-beat police comedy called "The Other Guys" and I found it to be funny and strange at the same time.  It was a great premise and these two actors had a fun chemistry with each other.

The Rocky Connection. #Giveaway

I remember one time when I was younger my grandparents on my father's side came to visit. I've talked about my grandfather before on this blog and he's the reason why I participate in Movember, but this is one memory that has always stayed with me.

Coloring with the Force thanks to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? It was almost like a million bloggers all cried out at once and then silence...but not for everyone.  This weekend a few of my fellow bloggers are heading to the HUGE #StarWarsEvent in Los Angeles and I will be following along via the hashtag #StarWarsEvent.

Counting Down to Christmas with Arlo from The Good Dinosaur

Remember when you were younger and the anticipation for Christmas once December hits? Did you "X" out the days until Christmas? I remember doing that with my calendars and just could not wait until the day came when I could celebrate with my family and see what gifts were waiting for us under the Christmas tree.

If you have children (or are just a kid at heart) you know that advent calendars are a better way to count down the days until Christmas than just drawing an "X" on the calendar.  If you are like me and waited until the last minute to get one and can not find the one you are looking for, I'm looking at you Lego Star Wars advent calendar, than this is a quick and easy one to make at home with your children.

Countdown the days with Arlo and see what's hidden behind the doors each day.  I would tell you what's being door number 2, but I think I should keep it a surprise.  What are you waiting for? Start that printer and get to printing and cutting!!

Click here to print out your own and to let the fun begin!

THE GOOD DINOSAUR is in theaters now. Get your tickets here and avoid the lines.

Where's Luke? I have a theory.

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens releasing in a few weeks, the big question has been: Where is Luke?  Well, after sitting down and looking at the teasers and trailers a few times I have come up with a theory.

The Civil War is coming, which side will you take?

There was a point in my life when I stopped reading comics. I know right, blasphemy, but it started to become a little overwhelming. With so many mutant titles coming out every week and the Spider-Man series getting a little too ridiculous for me, I mean his parents were alive and might have been clones? Come on Spidey, what are you doing?

Toys and Star Wars go hand in hand.

Every since I first starting going to the Chicago Toy & Game Fair I have always wanted to attend the Star Wars luncheon.  Every year, for some reason or another I do not attend.  If I remember correctly, it was a breakfast first and then they moved it to a luncheon.  This year again I am not going to be able to make it, but that does not mean you should miss it.  You can purchase your tickets here.

Would you like to go to the Chicago Toy & Game Fair?  Leave us a comment below telling us which is you favorite Star Wars toy of all time for a chance to win a family pass. (Note: Winning a pass does not gain you entrance to the Star Wars Luncheon. Tickets for that event must be purchased separately in the link above.)  A winner will be chosen by noon tomorrow.  Good luck everyone.

Marvel's Ant-Man Digital release and giveaway.

I remember when I saw the leaked footage from Edgar Wright's version of Ant-Man and I was amazed. I knew a little about Ant-Man and his storyline, but I was not sure which way they would go in the movie.  Once I finally saw the movie, I was blown away.

Join the adventure in Minecraft: Story Mode by Telltale Games

When I first heard about Minecraft: Story Mode I have to say that I was pretty excited. I mean two great tastes that taste great together excited! Minecraft. Awesome. Telltale Games. Awesome. Then you add some all star voice talents like Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson, Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldmen, Phil LaMarr, Billy West, and Paul Ruebens. Is that a recipe for success or what?!

Getting hands on at the Chicago Toy & Game fair. #Giveaway

The Chicago Toy & Game Fair comes to town next weekend and the Fandads will be there again to see and play with all the new and exciting toys that will be available this holiday season.  We have two family passes that we are giving away and $2 off coupons, but we'll talk about that a little later.  So what can you expect to see at this year's ChiTag? Keep reading to find out.

Finding Dory asks you to "Just Keep Swimming" until next June.

Finding Nemo is a movie that has helped me out when times are rough. When I come across those obstacles in my life that I feel I can not go over, I just think to myself; "What would Dory say?"  Yep, I look to an animated fish from an animated movie for inspiration.  I know it sounds strange, but sometimes you get inspiration from the weirdest places.

Remember the first time you saw a Star Wars poster?

When I was little we would always go to our local theater, The Riviera to see movies. Nowadays, The Riviera is a concert hall that houses a lot of great concerts, but let's focus on it when it was a theater.
I remember one year when we were walking in the lobby I saw a poster for RETURN OF THE JEDI. The poster just grabbed me and I froze and stared at it.

Getting serious with TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT #giveaway

I always thought that the Toy Story films were a great metaphor for parenting. I have also used this metaphor for teaching, too. If we stick to the parenting metaphor we all know that we come across those parents who take things a little too serious.  You know who I am talking about, the ones that have everything scheduled to a tee or the ones that are too serious to play around with their kids.

Last minute Halloween costumes ideas for Dads.

Dads, with Halloween a few days away do you have your costume ready?  I remember when I was younger Halloween was a big deal for my family.  We would drive to the local costume stores and spend a few hours looking for our costumes. My sisters and I would choose our costumes and could not wait to go trick-or-treating.

Being a father has reinvigorated the fun that I used to have as a kid during Halloween. Seeing pumpkins and houses all decorated gets me pumped to see all the fun costumes that will be available for my kids.

I believe I can fly....at least with the help of iFLY

I remember the first time that I saw Superman flying on the big screen I was in awe. It was pretty cool seeing this man flying around through the air like it was nothing and I wanted to do that.  When I was older I saw the movie Point Break and I remember the skydiving scenes and again I wanted to do that. Just like Superman it was pretty cool to see these guys doing these aerial acrobatics while they fell from a perfectly good plane.

Halloween with THE GOOD DINOSAUR.

Halloween is just around the corner and if you are looking for an interesting and different costume, why not dress up like some of the characters from THE GOOD DINOSAUR?  Obviously dressing up like Arlo will take some work, but dressing up as Spot is pretty simple to do.

Next Time, I'll Look Away.

"...Fight of the rights of every man.
I am a real American.
Fight for what's right, fight for your life!

I feel strong about right and wrong..."

It was after dinner on the ride home Friday night when it came on. Spotify has this playlist, Discover Weekly, that I throw on every so often. Anyway, "Real American" by Rick Derringer came on and I immediately thought of Hulk Hogan. The song's kind of ruined for me, sadly, the first thing that I thought of was Hogan's racist remarks. I know that he's only human and that we all make mistakes, but it wasn't an innocent slip of the tongue, I won't get into it but he seems like he regrets it and many people have come to his defense. Still, it was very disappointing to say the least. I mulled over the whole thing on the drive home, I didn't skip the song, but I listened to it with a different perspective.

I wake up this morning, of course I totally forgot about the Buffalo/Jacksonville game, not that it was on my "to watch list", and I start scrolling on my Facebook feed, Coincidentally, I came across this picture and I felt like I had to leave a comment. Is it the worst thing in the world? Absolutely not, but basically I thought that dressing a kid up like Hulk Hogan, not even three months after the whole thing happened, was a little in poor taste. Of course, few people agreed with me.

Before I go on, I want to clarify that I loved the Hulkster. I'm more of a mark than the average person. I've gone to live events, I subscribe to the WWE Network, I've dressed up as wrestlers for Halloween as well. So, this is not coming from a place of hate or elitism. I don't put down wrestling and/or their fans. This is just more of a reaction to how I'm feeling about the world around me right now.

I love America. My love for this country was without a doubt shaped by many things, including GI Joe cartoons, my schooling, movies, comic books, and watching Hulk Hogan come out to save the day. Hogan running in and doing the right thing time and time again, waving the flag while Rick Derringer played in the background. I am a fan, I am a Hulkamaniac, or at least I was.

These days though, I feel more and more like I don't belong or I'm not welcomed. You've got Trump calling my family rapists and murderers, or even worse, supporters of him echoing his thoughts. Or it's how little certain lives are valued, because you know, guns are more important than people of a certain race. Then again maybe it's not guns but sports that are more important, a bunch of people got hurt yesterday, three died, and yet the college football game went on. (and yes, I am aware of the irony in mentioning this since one of the first things I did today was to think about the NFL)

Maybe that's the point, no one's perfect, the NFL is full of domestic abuse cases, murderers, and animal abusers, but is the percentage any higher than the general population? (Some studies show that arrest rates among NFL players are low compared to the national average) Comedians, athletes, entertainers, politicians, they're all human and they're all going to make mistakes. Maybe ours is that we tend to put them on pedestals or expect too much of them.

Still, a large part of Halloween is dressing up as our heroes, and I'm not quite sure that Hulk Hogan fits that description any longer.

Let's Roll Out with the new Transformers: Robots in Disguise DVD. Mini Review and Giveaway

I remember running home after school to watch the Transformers on the television.  There was something about seeing these robots turn into cars, planes and even weapons that just captured my attention for the half hour that they were on.  Transformers was so different than anything else on television, that it's no surprise that it is still on the air.  The cool thing is that the story just keeps growing.

Learning about Life with #PlayskoolHeroes

When I was younger my babysitter would always have a stack of comics waiting for me when I was dropped off by my parents in the mornings.  Those comics were my escape. I would sit there and get lost with super heroes that would later become my favorite friends.  Since I was the youngest in my family, I was always too small to hang out with my sisters and cousins, so I just read my comics and joined my "friends" on new adventures.

Shared Experiences with the new STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS trailer.

I sat in the living room with my family watching the Monday Night Football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants and could not wait until halftime.  Then it was the moment we were all waiting for: the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Sunday, October 18, 2015

Star Wars: The Force Awakens official poster released and new trailer announcement.

Today is the big news that has been hinted at all weekend: the release of the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster.

The poster highlights a lot of the new characters from the film minus one big character: Luke Skywalker.

Why is Luke not in the picture? Will he be the focus of a different poster? Also what's with that Death Star looking planet behind Finn's character? Will we see a Resistance assault on that thing?

A lot of questions have been raised with this poster, but we don't have to wait long to get our answers. Tickets for The Force Awakens will go on sale tomorrow and if that news is not big enough a new trailer will debut during tomorrow night's Monday Night Football game on ESPN.

I can not think of a better way to end a Monday night with football and a new Star Wars trailer.

Prepare yourself for Dreamworks BRIDGE OF SPIES

I have been a fan of Tom Hanks since the days of Bosom Buddies, I know I'm dating myself, but the man was very funny and he made me laugh...a lot. I really loved how he made the characters his own and just helped you escape for whatever time he was on the screen.

Are you ready for the FRIENDSHIP GAMES? Review and Giveaway

Saying Good-Bye to Summer

(Disclaimer: Lee Jeans provided some of the clothing to the Fandads for this post. All opinions and thoughts are our own.)

At the end of summer a few things usually run through my head; did we do enough this summer and did we have a great time? Usually it feels like our summer was just right, but I think this past year things went a little better than usual. As with any summer there are always a few moments or milestones that tend to stay with you.

The voice of Moana has been found!

What I love about having a daughter is introducing her to strong female characters that surround her. Be it in comics, movies or television shows, I love showing my daughter that the female character does not always have to be the damsel in distress.

The latest trailer for THE GOOD DINOSAUR packs an emotional punch.

The latest trailer for THE GOOD DINOSAUR by Disney/Pixar has been released and if this trailer does not hit you in the feels in the beginning and toward the end of the trailer, you may need to watch it again.

Getting a job with The Intern

Getting a new job in today's market for me might be a little different than when I was younger. I remember when I went back to Gamestop for the holidays this past year and a lot of the other employees were younger than me. It was great working with them, but sometimes the jokes I would say would go over their heads because they did not get the reference.

Learning what's new at the #TNTChicago event.

Recently the Fandads were invited to the #TNTChicago Lunch and Learn event held by @TravelingMoms and @Techlicious at the InterContinental Chicago. This luncheon was a way for bloggers to see the latest in car technology and learn about improving their SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for their blogs.

It was a fun afternoon talking tech, touring the fabulous InterContinental Chicago, and eating some delicious meals with fellow bloggers. Now let's go over some of the fun things we learned that afternoon.

The Live Action Trailer to Disney's Jungle Book has arrived!

A few of my favorite Disney songs come from the movie The Jungle book. Just saying that title alone probably had you already humming "The Bare Necessities" or "Want to be like you" and if you do not know those songs, they you need to go listen to them.

I'm not sure if there will be any singing (though there is some whistling) in Disney's The Jungle Book coming out next year, but judging from the trailer it looks like it will be pretty exciting.  If you have been hiding in a cave last week and have not seen it, here it the teaser trailer.

Stay up to date with all the information for Disney's The Jungle Book by liking them on Facebook and following along on Twitter.

The Fandads know that "Real Men Can Braid"

(Disclaimer: The Fandads were invited to the "Real Men Can Braid" event and received some hair care products for our time.  All opinions and words are our own.)

How many times do we see in television shows or in movies the bumbling dad trying to fix his daughter's hair and he either gets frustrated with it or makes a complete mess of things?

What we don't see in these situations are the dads that know how to take care of their daughter's hair. Oh, yeah. They are out there, but for the ones that want to learn there is a safe place where they can go and learn all about braiding hair.

Black Mass Mini-Review and Giveaway

We here at Fandads like to keep our mini-reviews straight and to the point, so here is our thoughts on Black Mass.  We will not reveal any spoilers. We will just tell you what we thought of the movie.

Black Mass tells the story of how James "Whitey" Bulger "worked" with the FBI to help take down the Italian mob and in the meantime becomes one of the most ruthless gansters in Boston. It's a tense story and a little slow paced, but it keeps your attention through most of the movie.

While our household is currently getting prepared for the new Star Wars movie that will be released later this year, we are catching up on some old and new shows on television.  Star Wars is a big part of our family and one of the series that we can not get enough of is the LEGO series of Star Wars shows.

Choose a Side! The Resistance or The First Order.

Recently our friends at Hasbro sent us an ominous tube which held two amazing looking Star Wars posters. The posters were for The Resistance and The First Order, which are the two factions battling each other in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now while these posters were great on their own, there was a disturbance in the letter that came with them. The letter was asking us to choose a side: #ChooseLightSide or #ChooseDarkSide.

Having fun with The Good Dinosaur.

The trailer to The Good Dinosaur has me really intrigued and my little girl is already asking if we are going to see this when it comes out.  I love movies about strange friendships and I can not wait to see this one. I just hope it is not a tear-jerker.

Saving the World with Marvel Universe Live #Sponsored

(Disclaimer: The Fandads were provided tickets to see Marvel Universe Live by Feld Entertainment. All words and opinions are our own.)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see your favorite superheroes in action right before your eyes? I know that many times when I would read my comic books I imagined myself in the middle of the action. I would see myself running around dodging explosions and lending a hand when I could. In reality though, I probably would be running around screaming my head off and trying not to get hurt.

Well my friends, with the Marvel Universe Live show you can be up close and personal with the action, help out Iron Man during the show and not have to worry about a Hydra agent grabbing you, that is unless you run out into the stage area, which I suggest you do not do.

Regrets of a Fanboy Action Figure Collector.

Walking down the aisles at Target during the #ForceFriday sales there was something wrong.  Last time when a new Star Wars movie came out and there were new figures on the shelf, I was full of excitement and walking around with a list of figures that I wanted to buy.

This time it was different. I just did not feel the same excitement as I did back in those days. I walked back and forth a few times and questioned what I was doing here.  Yeah, I had a few figures in my head that I wanted to buy and bought them, but it just didn't feel the same anymore.

Rocking out with the Blue Man Group #BloggingBlue

(Disclaimer: The Fandads were provided with seats for a performance of the Blue Man Group show. As much as the Blue Men tried to hypnotize us, all words and opinions are our own.)

Every time I would see commercials for The Blue Man Group, I would say to myself "I want to see that show," but I never went out and bought tickets.  The thought would cross my mind every now and then. Once in awhile they would make an appearance on a television show and the thought again would pop in my head, but I still did not go.

I don't know why that was. Maybe there was something about their look that scared me and made me not want to see them in person. Maybe I was just overreacting and had nothing to be afraid of. I have had friends that have seen the show and told me to go that I would have a lot of fun.  Maybe they were brainwashed and were now recruiting for the Blue Man Group. I knew that one day I would have to conquer my fear and that day happened last week.
