Flywheel Blogger Preview Event or "me trying to be sporty part ?"

Last Tuesday, October 28th, this Fandad was lucky enough to get into the Blogger Preview event that Flywheel Old Town was having to promote their recent opening.  After doing the Spartan Race, I realized, more like my body told me, that I need to be in better shape if I want to do that again. So this invite could not have come at a better time because I am looking for new ways to start working out.

I have never taken a spin/cycling class before. I would see them as I drove by some health clubs, but I have never taken one.  When I was younger I would ride my bike a lot so I should be fine, right?  Uhh, I don't think so.  Let's go back to that day.

When I arrived at Flywheel I was greeted with a huge smile and shown where the monitors were to look up my registration.  The cool thing about this place is that you can register your class online, pick out your shoe size and then wait for the confirmation with your bike number.  The reason for the monitors is to check in and to see which cubby has your shoes.

I was next given a brief tour of the place and shown where the lockers were to put away my belongings.  If you do not have a lock, no problem.  These lockers let you customize the combination and in case you forget your locker number, there is a whiteboard on the side to write it down, just don't write your combination on there, too.

Once inside the room I had to find my bike and attach my shoes into the bike pedals.  The staff on hand helped me out with this process and described all the bells and whistles of the bike and what I should expect.  Once our instructor for the night, Will came into the room, he welcomed us all and told us to try our best and all he wants is for us to push ourselves from the comfortable that we know.

Once the lights dimmed and the music started pumping through the speakers it was on.  I have been to a few exercise classes before and the music that the instructor plays always has to be on point.  The music along with the instructor drives the class and usually keeps you pumped to continue and push yourself.  The playlist that Will had for us was just perfect.  Talib Kweli, Whitney Houston, Sam Smith and Taylor Swift pumped through the speakers and it got me motivated to push myself during this 45 minute workout.

After the workout, I felt great.  I felt energized, alert and a little hungry.  Luckily for us the crew from Protein Bar was there with a few samples of their drinks and a salad for us to snack on.  While drinking a pineapple drink I chatted with a few of the other bloggers and talked about our cycling experience and we all got together for a group shot.  Yes, I am wearing my Spartan headband because I knew I was going to sweat.

After hanging out for a few minutes and talking to the staff I was given my swag bag to take home and a few passes to giveaway to our readers. I had a great time at Flywheel and would like to return there again.  My wife told me that she wants to try out a class there, so I might look into registering both of us for a class.  If you are in the area, I suggest you check out Flywheel. Sign up for a class and push yourself beyond what your limits are and your legs will thank you in the morning.

Giveaway time!

We have three passes for a free class to give to a few of our lucky readers.  To win one of these passes, answer the following questions in the comments below:

1. Why do you want to try out Flywheel?
2. What other exercise routines have you tried out before?
3. Who is your favorite Star Wars character?

Remember, the passes are for the Flywheel in Old Town, so you must live within the Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs to enter.  Winners will be announced Friday, November 14 on our Facebook page.

Good luck to all and please share your Flywheel experience (pictures & feedback) with us on the Fandads Facebook page.
