Grilling with the Fandads! #Sponsored

I was originally going to call this post "The five things that you need to grill this summer", but I started to think about it and realized that you can not pick just five things. There are so many great foods out there to grill that you will leave something out and people would start to complain and throw tomatoes at you wherever you go and it would all be a big mess.

So instead of just choosing five things to grill, I'm just going to talk to you about a few things that I recently cooked on my grill. Ever since having kids I have tried something new everyday, so why not trying something new on the grill this summer?

Ok, if you live in Chicago, you know that this summer has been a little wacky. One day it's in the upper 70's then the next day it drops to the 50's and it is raining all day. Needless to say, my STOK Island grill has not been seeing as much action as I would like it to see.

I have been wanting to grill since the day I got my grill, but it's always weather permitting. After going to a few BBQ's, I decided I've had enough! I was going to go home and bring out my grill and grill me some food no matter what...and that's what I did.

Steaks, did someone say steaks?
One of things that I love to grill is skirt steaks. I usually get it from the local grocery store and have them open it and run it through the machine for me so it's already tender and ready for me to prepare.  Now, what I'm going to tell you next is my recipe, so try it if you like or not, it's completely up to you, but I think you should try it.

I season my steak with salt and pepper, I know, no big surprise there, but I also put some steak seasoning on it and then marinate it with soy sauce. If you have never tried it this way I recommend trying it just once.  I let it marinate for a few minutes or hours and then set it on the grill.  While cooking I have it sit for a few minutes on each side until it has a nice golden brown color and then that's when I know it's ready. I could almost smell it right now.

Daaa Brats and Daaa Sausage!
If you ask anyone that knows me, you know that I love eating a good bratwurst.  Hot dogs are cool and all, but there is something about a brat over the flames that says summer to me. I also like eating a good grilled sausage too.  Recently I have been introduced to a sausage that has bacon in it. Let me repeat that - a SAUSAGE with BACON in it!!  If you are a lover of these two things you have to try the sausages from Big Fork.

There are seven different varieties of these bacon sausages and I have yet to try them all. Right now the two that are my favorite are the Hickory & Applewood (pictured above) and the Maple & Brown Sugar.  If you have these at your next party I guarantee they will be a hit, and if they are not, you need to get some new friends that appreciate bacon, STAT!

I guess you have to eat healthy.
Since I have been running a lot and have another mud run coming up in August, I have to eat a little healthier, so why not grill some vegetables on the grill? I'll admit, I am not really a big fan of veggies, veggie chips maybe, but I know if my kids see me eat them then they will eat them too.

My wife loves sweet peppers, so we threw a few on the grill.  Using the vegetable tray on the grill, I did not have to worry about the peppers falling through or the skin sticking to the grill. It was a great way to cook the peppers and now I am thinking about asking my brother-in-law for his asparagus recipe and maybe I can duplicate that on my grill.

I know a lot of people begin grilling in the summer especially with the 4th of July holiday and here we are mid-July and I just started, better late than never I guess, but now I will not stop.  There are a few other items that I want to try to grill and the big one on my list right now is pizza. Yep, you heard that correctly. I am going to cook a pizza on my grill!  At least if it doesn't rain all weekend.

What are some of the items that you would like us to try and grill this summer?
