The Rocky Connection. #Giveaway

I remember one time when I was younger my grandparents on my father's side came to visit. I've talked about my grandfather before on this blog and he's the reason why I participate in Movember, but this is one memory that has always stayed with me.

One afternoon my mother and grandmother were preparing dinner for the family and this was one of those dinners that took all day to cook. As a way to kill time, my father suggested for us to walk to the local theater, The Riviera, and catch a movie while we waited.

The Riviera was our go to theater when we had slow afternoons. I don't know how many times we would go there and just watch movies until the sun went down.

When we got to the theater my dad bought us all tickets for one movie: Rocky 3.

My father and I are huge boxing fans. Boxing and football are the two sports we always watch together. I never really got into soccer, but when I visit my parents or when they come over my dad always tells me about the soccer games he watched or changes the channel on our television to watch a soccer game.

We got our tickets, took our seats and waited for the movie to begin.  Once the movie started all of our eyes were glued to the screen. I was just amazed at how Rocky was able to (Spoiler alert) defeat Clubber Lang, because it seemed so impossible.  You also have to remember that I was still a young boy and going to the movies was a great escape for me.  I just loved getting lost in the movies and forgetting about reality for a while.

My grandfather was a very demure man. He was stern, looked like a bad ass, but was also very loving toward us.  As the movie came to the climatic fight, he was practically on his feet cheering and throwing punches at the screen.  I remember giggling about his actions, but I too was caught up in that final fight.

As we left the theater, all my grandfather would talk about was the movie and how much he enjoyed it. Looking back on that day, I am glad we went and saw Rocky 3 because for a few hours we all were able to enjoy a great movie that teaches you about resilience, determination and what you can do if you believe in yourself.  These were lessons that not only Rocky showed us, but my father also instilled in us and lessons I am teaching my children.

There are days that I wish my grandfather was still around so I can just sit down and talk to him about his childhood or watch him play with my children.  I know that when my son gets older, we will get together with my father and watch some sporting events on the television or hopefully experience them live. I know that my grandfather will be there with us.

It seems that the story of Rocky continues in CREED that is currently in theaters, and to get everyone ready for the upcoming winter season we have a CREED prize pack to giveaway.  What do you have to do to win? About CREED:

Drama.  Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born.  Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.  Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer.  Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend.  Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.  With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?
