Join the adventure in Minecraft: Story Mode by Telltale Games

When I first heard about Minecraft: Story Mode I have to say that I was pretty excited. I mean two great tastes that taste great together excited! Minecraft. Awesome. Telltale Games. Awesome. Then you add some all star voice talents like Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson, Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldmen, Phil LaMarr, Billy West, and Paul Ruebens. Is that a recipe for success or what?!

Anyway, somehow along the way I got distracted by a little known Star battle franchise, another Call of something or other and the latest Pip Boy, and I forgot about M:SM. As luck would have it, we were lucky enough to have Telltale Games send us a copy and I popped it in as soon as I got it in the mail.

The game starts out by introducing you to the gang. You play Jesse (male or female, you decide!), an amateur builder who, along with the rest of team, aspires to win the best build contest at Endercon. Longtime 'crafters will immediately recognize gameplay features and themes from Minecraft. The art style and many elements from Minecraft work perfectly in Story Mode.

As the game progresses you, in true Telltales fashion, have to make decisions that will impact your character and the story as it continues. I've played with both a male and female build and I changed some decisions up (my daughters loved the game, but they're goody two shoes and made way nicer decisions than I did) and I can tell you that the game will take slightly different turns depending on how you proceed.

I won't give too much away, but as our reluctant heroes are thrown into an impossible situation (aren't they always?) we learn about the "Order of the Stone", and are forced to travel into the Nether in order to save the world.

If you're a fan of either Telltale Games and/or Minecraft I would definitely check this out. I especially like the fact that I can play this comfortably with my four and five year olds. They got a little freaked out at times, but there wasn't anything too scary in the game. They've played Minecraft with me in the past, and I definitely can't play The Walking Dead with them so this has been a great experience so far.

Episodes one and two are already available and the rest are coming soon. It's available on PC/MAC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, 360, Steam, App Store, Google Play, Amazon, Atari 2600...scratch that last one. Check it out here. Oh and like I mentioned Telltale Games was cool enough to provide us with a copy of the game but my opinions and umm...words are totally, all, mine.

Thanks for reading!
