Taking on C2E2 with the Fandads

Disclaimer: The Fandads were provided Press passes for attending C2E2. All words, thoughts, tired feet, and amazing experiences are our own.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Chicago Comics Entertainment Expo or C2E2 as more people have come to know it and this year was a blast. We have been attending C2E2 since it first started and have only missed one year, but we always try to attend and enjoy the weekend with like-minded individuals and our families. Let's give you a rundown of what happened this year.

We had Press Passes

This was the first year that the Fandads were approved to get press passes for the event and we were excited, but also did not know how much access we could or could not get. We received a good amount of emails to interview artists and certain booths and we tried to get to all of them. I think we might have spread ourselves a little thin this time around, but next year we will be better prepared for it.

Cosplay, Artists, and Comics, Oh My!

Not only was this the first year that we received press passes, but it was also the first time that I dressed up for the event. The previous years that I have gone I have worn comic-book inspired t-shirts and my daughter would dress up, but this year I decided to have a go at it. Thanks to Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-verse, I dressed up as Peter B. Parker. I already had the dadbod for it, so I just needed to get some key items to look like him.

One of the cool things of attending this year was interviewing Camilla d'Errico. We got an email about Camilla and her art and it was mentioned that she was auctioning off one of her pieces for St. Jude and I knew I had to talk to her.  If you follow our blog and Facebook page, you know that we are huge supporters of St. Jude Children's Hospital and are always helping to spread their message.

I talked to Camilla about her artwork, bees, St. Jude, and Stan Lee. She also gave us some insight into her new series: HelmutGirls, coming out next year. Listen to the interview below.

Another cool interview we did was with the folks from Learning Resources at their Beaker Creatures booth. Beaker Creatures are collectible figures that children can "hatch" using the liquid reactor lab. The children place the creatures in the solution or water and the Beaker Creature magically appear. Each creature represents different species that relate to real-world animals. Check out the video below to learn more about them and click this link to buy your own.

While comics are a big thing for the Fandads, one of the new series that we were introduced at the show was Neon Future created by Grammy-nominated Steve Aoki, Eisner Award winner Jim Krueger (DC Comics “Justice,” Marvel “Earth X,”) and Impact Theory studio founder Tom Bilyeu. The series is set 30 years into the future and features an intriguing story about the dangers of unchecked power and the limitless nature of human potential.

As with every year that we have attended C2E2 the cosplayers are always bringing their "A" game to the event. This year we saw a lot of great costumes and this was the first year that I dressed up myself. Check out some of the great costumes we saw at the show.

The Tradition Continues

C2E2 is always a great family experience and I am glad that we have been attending since the very first one. I attended the first one with my daughter and now my son is joining us on these weekend adventures. I can not wait to see what the next year brings.
