Baseball season is in full swing and it is always a great way for families to spend time together. With the local teams in the city, it can be a little costly to attend one of those games. Especially if you are a family of four with two children that like to eat a lot, you have to find an alternative to the big league games. While the big league games are pretty fun to attend the real action is at the minor league games like the Chicago Dogs. Last weekend the Fandads were invited to attend a Chicago Dogs game and it was a great time for our family.
On the night that we went, it was Superhero night. I was going to dress up with my son, but the afternoon was really hot and I thought my son would be uncomfortable with a costume on at the game. We decided to ditch the costumes and just wear superhero shirts, but as we arrived at the game the temperature had dropped a little and I was regretting the decision of leaving out costumes at home. Maybe we can dress up for the next one.
If you have never been to a Chicago Dogs games I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is so chill and relaxed that you really get to enjoy yourself there. It is not as crowded as the local teams and you do not really have to worry about squeezing through big crowds just to get from one location of the field to another. Other than it being superhero night, our children received free Chicago Dogs T-shirts that night too. Walking around before the game, my children enjoyed the games in the kid's zone (I don't remember if that was the official name of it.)
One of the great things about attending the Chicago Dogs game was the fun games and activities that they had between innings. Before the game started they had a "Superhero parade' which involved taking all the kids that dressed-up and walking them around the field. Between the innings, they had an "underwear" 6-legged race, sumo wrestling, and an inflatable ball joust-type game. The winners of each game won vouchers to the team store or tickets to an upcoming game.
The Chicago Dogs games are a fun alternative to the major baseball teams we have in Chicago. The stadium is not that far from the city and the parking is only $3. That's another thing about seeing this team is that the prices are not that bad.

The night we attended the Dogs won 9-2 and it was exciting to see the team celebrate and hear the "Hot Dog" song blaring out of the speakers in the stadium. (Hearing that song reminded me of watching the Mickey Mouse Show with my children when they were younger.) After the team cleared the field our children ran the bases which is one of the highlights from attending a Friday night game. It was also great to hang out with fellow dads from Daddy's Grounded and The RockFather.
