Skyscraper Quick Review

Disclaimer: The Fandads were invited to an advance screening of Skyscraper. All thoughts, opinions and increased heartrates are our own.

Summer is the time for movies to take our minds off of the heat and wondering what fun activity you have scheduled next for your children. We go to the "blockbuster" movies to escape reality and enjoy some popcorn with our children and Skyscraper checks those boxes and gives us a fun action movie to enjoy for a short time.

Here are our favorite moments from Skyscraper.

1. It's all about family
From the first time we see Dwayne Johnson's character, Will Sawyer, we see him as a tough tactical unit guy. After he goes through his incident, we see that he is a dedicated father that is trying to do what's best for his family. When he sees his family in danger he will do anything to save them. That even means jumping from a crane to the 90-plus floor of a burning building.

2. Not your ordinary mom in distress.
Neve Campbell is great in this as a Sarah Sawyer. She is a former military nurse, so she knows how to kick butt and take names. This is fantastic to see and it's a great model for children to see the mom fight the bad guys and take charge in saving her children. Also, it's great when she uses her language studies to surprise the police chief in the mobile unit. You'll see what I mean.

3. Kores Botha
Kores Botha is played by Roland Møller and if you don't know his name by the end of the movie, then you were not paying attention. He is a typical bad guy that uses his muscle and low voice to be intimidating. His name is repeated about 20 times in the movie so you will know his name when you are walking out of the theater.

4. The Rock
There are a lot of spectacular action sequences in the movie and like the guys sitting next to me kept saying "Only the Rock can do that!" Some of these action scenes seem a little too far-fetched, but it's a summer movie and who else but the Rock can make these scenes look cool. There are some cheesy moments in the movie, but if you remember how cheesy The Rock was doing his locker room antics on WWE, then you will be ok with the cheese on here.

5. The reaction
It's been a while that I have gone to an action movie, that doesn't have to deal with superheroes, that I was either at the edge of my seat or squeezing the armrest of my seat. There were a lot of moments where people broke into applause and cheered as he performed some of these feats of grandeur. This movie is a fun getaway from the world for a short time and by short I mean this movie is only an hour and a half. There is a lot of action in a brief amount of time.

Final Thoughts: Skyscraper is fun, exaggerated, action. There are a lot of cool action sequences, but sometimes you just have to shake your head and say, "Only The Rock can do that!" There is a cool story about family in the movie, but you're really there to see The Rock kick some butt and do some incredible stunts.

Kid Friendly: This movie might be a little too intense for younger children. If you had to categorize it by age, I would say 9 and up would be ok with this movie. Unlike a lot of superhero movies, the violence in this movie is intense and there are a little more curse words in this than your average superhero movie.

Violence: Unlike a lot of superhero movies, the violence in this movie is intense and there are a little more curse words in this than your average superhero movie. There is a sequence in the beginning of the movie with a hostage situation that might be too much for some adults, especially in today's climate.

Fandads Rating: 4 out of 5
