Avengers: Endgame Mini-Review and Our Favorite Moments

Marvel Studio's Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of 21 Marvel movies all leading to the 22nd that wraps up the Infinity Stone Saga. Now while we are hoping many of our readers have seen the movie by now, we know that this may not be the case. We have a mini non-spoiler review for those that have yet to see the movie, and for those that have seen the movie, Gil and I list our favorite moments.

Mini-review

From the moment we saw Thanos at the end of Avengers we knew that one day this new team that was formed will face him, we just did not know that it would take 10 years to get there. This movie has everything that fans have been wanting to see since the first Avengers movie and more.

In Endgame we see the fallout of Thanos snapping his fingers at the end of Infinity War. We are shown how those that are left behind are trying to get a semblance of normal life with what they have. We don't want to give much away but the Avengers come up with a plan to reverse the "snap" and get all of their friends and families back.

Now go see the movie if you have not and don't keep reading if you do not want the movie spoiled for you.

Our Favorite Moments (WARNING: Spoilers Ahead)

When talking about our favorite moments Gil and I had a few that were exactly the same. One of them is going to be twice on the list, but we are going to share with you the moments that made us cheer in our seats.

Victor's Favorite Moments

Spider-Man/Iron Man reunion

One of the hardest moments for myself in Infinity War was when Spider-Man was dusted. I do not think there was a dry eye in the theater during this moment. When we started seeing all of the characters come back there was a large applause when Spider-Man came swinging through the portal.  Seeing him return and then having Iron Man just give him a hug brought the tears to my eyes again.

Cap and Mjolnir

Gil talks about this too, but this moment to me reminded me of The Force Awakens. Remember the fight between Finn and Kylo in the snow? We see the lightsaber in the snow and Kylo using the force to grab it and it flies by him straight into Rey's hand. The way Mjolnir was lifting off the ground, I thought it was Thor summoning it, but when it hit Thanos and flew right into Cap's hand, I screamed "Yes!" along with the entire theater.

"Avengers Assemble"

We got a small taste of this in Age of Ultron at the end of the movie. If you watched the blooper reels you see Scarlett Johansen jump in front of Chris Evans and screams "Assemble!" This moment was so incredible because Cap is the only one left in front of Thanos. Thor and Iron Man are down for the count and Cap gets up tired and holding a broken shield. We see him strap what's left of his shield to his arm and prepare to take on Thanos and his army.

As Cap stands there, we hear Sam in Cap's ear say "On your left". This is a great call back to Cap and Sam's running gag at the beginning of Civil War, but also a head's up as to what's to come. As we see the entire Marvel line-up standing there next to Cap, he looks at Thanos, calls Mjolnir and says the words that fans have been waiting for him to say, "Avengers, Assemble!"

The Headbutt

We have been told that Captain Marvel is the strongest superhero in the Marvel Universe and there was one moment that showed us how powerful she is. In the middle of the big battle, Thanos has gained control of the new gauntlet and is getting ready to snap his fingers again. Captain Marvel swoops in and grabs his fingers and it looks like she is going to break them. Thanos gives her a look and, I guess, uses all of his might to head-butt her and she does not even flinch. It is a funny moment in the movie but also shows us how powerful Captain Marvel is.

There are a lot of other great moments in the movie including one where all of the females of the Marvel Universe team-up. As a father of a young daughter, that moment was powerful because it was a reminder that not all superheroes are men and that women can do anything.

Gil's favorite moments:

Cap and Mjolnir

Way back in Age of Ultron, Cap is able to momentarily move Mjolnir. Very cool, kind of easter egg. Fast forward to Endgame. Thor is down and out, Stormbreaker is about to kill him and then wham! Mjolnir knocks Thanos down and who is wielding it? Steve Rogers. Thor is channeling all of us when he yells "I KNEW IT!".

Civil War Elevator Scene Revisited

Revisiting the famous elevator fight scene was awesome as well, but not because of the action, but rather the lack of. In the Winter Soldier, an awesome fight ensues but in Endgame an older and wiser Cap just has to say two magic words: Hail Hydra. Clever. Not only in the plot, but it is an Easter egg of sorts since it is also a reference to one of the most controversial Marvel plots of all time, Hydra Cap.

What May Come

There are so many moments but these are a couple of my favorites. There are also a lot of smaller moments, like the family reunions, the sacrifices, and happy endings. However, I'm going to leave you with one that I loved because it might be a clue of what is to come.  Asgardians of the Galaxy. That has a nice ring to it.
