What I love about having a daughter is introducing her to strong female characters that surround her. Be it in comics, movies or television shows, I love showing my daughter that the female character does not always have to be the damsel in distress.
With Disney Princess' like Merida from Brave, Mulan and Sofia the First, my daughter is seeing how a female character can be strong, independent and caring at the same time.
I think this new character MOANA will continue with that tradition, but we will have to wait for awhile before we can see her on the big screen.
Today after a worldwide search Walt Disney Animation Studios has found the voice for the title character of their new movie MOANA. MOANA will be voiced by 14 year old and native Hawaiian newcomer Auli'i Cravalho. She will join Dwayne Johnson in the big-screen adventure about a spirited and fearless teenager who, with the help from a demi-god Maui (voiced by Johnson), sets out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder.
