Back in the days when I worked at GameStop, we would always get a lot of people asking for fun, couch co-op games. You know, the games that you can play in the same room with someone as opposed to playing with someone online across the neighborhood or country. Well friends, if you are looking for a game like this to play with your family the Adventure Pals are here to fill that void.
With a multitude of multiplayer games being online only, it's hard to find a game that does not require you to connect online and play with your friend who lives on the other side of the city or with someone online. I remember back in the day having intense competitions with my friends playing driving or sports games and it was great because we were together in the same room.
As game systems starting relying more on multiplayer online options playing in the same room with your friends took a backseat. While I do like playing online, I usually do not play with people I do not know and being a father that plays video games, it's hard sometimes to get together with your other dad friends to play video games. My daughter started getting into video games at a young age and it was hard to find games that were easy for her to play. If it wasn't a dancing game it was an interactive character game but after a while, those games started getting repetitive.
When we first got The Adventure Pals I was excited that this game was a couch-co-op game and we could play together. Now while the game was easy for me to navigate around and defeat the enemies, it was a little difficult for my daughter, but not that difficult. The in-game physics make bouncing off the walls pretty easy, so my daughter got the hang of that part pretty quick.
Now, don't let the games cute characters throw you off. While this game is fun to play with your children, there are a few jokes in the game that might go over the heads of your children and hopefully, they won't ask you to explain them. There is a joke about a stripper at the beginning of the game and a mission where you have to save the "wife" of a farmer, who turns out to be a pig. Little things like that might be strange for your children, but like I said, hopefully, they will not question it. You also have silly characters like the hot dog guy in the video below.
Overall the game is a lot of fun and great to play with your friends or family members together. Minus some of the aforementioned mature themes, this game would make a fun addition to your video game collection. The Adventure Pals is now available to own on multiple systems: Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
The Adventure Pals is an action-packed platformer about friendship, exploration, and riding your giraffe. Mr. B is kidnapping old people and turning them into hot dogs! It's up to you and your best buddies to save the day. You'll leap, slash, and blast your way through increasingly madcap levels filled with traps, weird and wild enemies, treasure, and more. Along the way, you'll help a whale regain confidence, take a side in the battle between toast and dinosaur, travel to a legendary sunken city and decide the fate of a Pirate election. Explore the world on the back of your giraffe. Your travels take you across a huge land filled with zombie pirate cats, post-apocalyptic dinosaurs and hotdogs that poop explosive mines. Explore the mystical forests of Treevale, hike the haunted craters of the moon and dive into the depths of the ocean to find the lost city of Crablantis.
Inspired by classic platformers and cartoons alike, The Adventure Pals combines hilarious characters with rip-roaring platforming and combat. Level up to learn special abilities, throw bombs and whack things with your sword. Find cupcakes to unlock costumes and fill your scrapbook up with secret stickers. The game is a mixture of lovingly handcrafted platformer levels, combat-focused arenas and RPG-like locations with townsfolk who provide quests, items and other goodies for you to buy to aid you on your journey. Just like your favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich, The Adventure pals is both nutty and sweet, with perhaps just a little crunch. It is lighthearted, goofy fun no matter what your age.
