Angry Birds Go Review and Giveaway!
Monday, December 30, 2013
I was Howard Langston…at least for a few hours.
If you understood the title of this post, you're either an Arnold Schwarzenegger fan or fan of the movie Jingle All the Way. How did I become like Howard looking for Turbo Man at the last minute? Funny you should ask.

10 Days of Fandads is Coming!
It is that time of year again for us here at Fandads to thank our friends for their support with the 3rd annual "10 Days of Fandads". If you are new to our site and have never participated, check out a picture of last year's goodies here with our model taunting you.
"How do I participate?" You may be asking yourself, it's really easy. If you are not a fan of us on Facebook go there now and do it...we'll wait.
Ok, you're back? Good. Everyday we will post a question on our Facebook page at random times. Some days it will be a simple question or we will make you work for your prize (visit different websites for answers or post pictures on our page). Prizes will be limited to 2 prizes per person this year.
We are still finalizing some of our prizes, but we think you will be happy with what we are giving away this year.

Transformers Construct-Bots Review and Giveaway.
Imagine being able to have the power to create your very own Transformer. What would you build? What would you name it? Well, my friends, you don't have to imagine that no more, because our friends at Hasbro have come out with a new line of Transformers that let you do just that. Transformers Construct-Bots let you build your own Transformer and then use those pieces to combine with others to make something original. The possibilities are endless or "more than meets the eye." (Sorry, I had to go there.)
This is not a paid post. Hasbro has provided Fandads with a few Transformers Construct-Bots to review and play with for this post. Our review and opinions are our own.

Haunt You Forever
As you may or may not know, Vic and I used to work at Waldenbooks/Borders together, we've worked in the retail holiday trenches so that makes us thick as thieves or...something. Anyway, we're both out of the "life" (thank God) but I recently was reminded about a book that haunted some of my late nights working at the store.

Chicago Toy & Game Fair is Coming Soon. Want to Go?
The Chicago Toy and Game Fair is coming up, November 23 & 24, and the Fandads will be there again this year and we want to take some of our readers with us...not in the same car of course, but we can all meet up there. This year marks the 11th anniversary of CHiTag so it's planning out to be bigger than the previous years. Never been to the fair? Keep reading to see some highlights of our previous visits, events taking place that weekend and a chance to win a family pass. Ready, let's go.

The Dads do Baby Loves Disco
Why I am doing Movember this year.
This November I am joining a group of DadBoggers in what has been come to be known as Movember. What is Movember? For the entire month, men grow out their mustaches to help raise
awareness for prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men and hopefully grow some sweet 'staches by the time the month is done. By having a group of dadbloggers uniting to do this we can help spread the word through each of our blogs and, as our team states, "Use social media for social good." Now while we are all doing this to raise awareness, I am also doing this for my own special reason.

Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Review and Giveaway
Earlier this year I confessed that I never played the Angry Bird games and that a Star Wars version came out and that had me a little intrigued. Well, today I can say that I am addicted to the Star Wars version of the game and I got my little girl addicted to it also. I just love being able to use my favorite Star Wars characters and destroy structures based on popular locations from the film. The toys that have come out are another story. While I haven't bought as many of the sets that have come out, I have bought a few and they are pretty fun to build and destroy.
Now imagine playing with a set and importing the toy in your hand into the game on your tablet and using it to beat the level you are on. If you think that this idea is crazy, well set your eyes on the new Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods.

Fandads Join the #BigLeagueDads to see the Chicago Cubs.
On Sunday, September 22, Dove Men + Care and MLB invited a few Chicago Dad bloggers to see the Chicago Cubs take on the Atlanta Braves. While it was not the outcome the Cubs faithful would have liked to have, it was a good day for families to make some memories out at the ballpark.
Pacific Rim Blu-Ray Giveaway
Remember watching cartoons like Voltron and Tranzor Z (Mazinger Z) and just thinking how awesome those robots were. I remember when I saw the first Transformers movie and thinking to myself "If they can make robots like this, they should do a Voltron movie soon." Sadly, I will still have to wait a few more years until a Voltron movie is made, but Pacific Rim is pretty close to reliving those old robot cartoon adventures.
(This is not a paid post. The Blu-ray will be provided to the winner by Warner Bros.)

A Fandads Fan Reviews Disney Infinity
Being that both Gil and I are teachers, it's kind of hard to sit down and play video games like we used to. With the plethora of games coming out, we try to keep up, but sometimes it's just hard to buy or play the games we want. Here is where you come in, the Fandad community. Recently one of our loyal readers asked us about doing a Disney Infinity review. Now while both of us were interested in the game, we haven't bought it yet. We posted the question on our Facebook page for opinions from our fans and the reaction was pretty positive. he went out and bought the game and I asked him if, after playing the game for awhile, he could do a review and here it is. So here is fellow Fandad Chris H. with his review of Disney Infinity.

Bounty Killer DVD Giveaway!
As Fandads we all like to find time to relax and enjoy our video games, comics and movies. Every now and then we just want to watch something to take our mind away from our daily problems and just veg out. One thing that I think we can all agree on is we like to watch things blow up and women that can kick butt (Kill Bill anyone?) If you're looking for a movie like that, then Bounty Killer is the movie you want to see....or win from us.

T-Shirt Thursday!
Today's post is short and to the point like our subject Boba Fett. I found this shirt in the clearance section at Old Navy for $4. There was no second guessing that I was going to buy this. It just goes to show you that you can find a cool shirt for cheap if you just know where to look.

The Fandads are coming for you Rock!! #Sponsored
After countless false starts and firing some of the best directors out there (too many slow motion shots Bay) the Fandads #SuperMilkMan video is finally up!
Recently Fandads teamed up with Milk to help promote The Rock's new milk campaign. This team up led to an amazing twitter party, some fun trash talk between the dadbloggers competing, but it also led to some fun videos about how we become #SuperMilkMan. Out of the 25 entrants, one lucky dad blogger is going to win the chance to meet The Rock and maybe compete with him to see who can rescue the most cats from a tree.
Our video was fun to make and I'm glad I got to share this experience with my little girl (we're looking at you big award given to movie stars)! Enjoy the video below, share your thoughts with us and make sure to view the other videos on Instagram using the hashtag #SuperMilkMan. Make sure you visit The Breakfast Project for tips, recipes and a chance to win some milk. Yes, you heard that right. Let me repeat; a chance to win some milk!
Thanks for supporting us and hopefully we'll get a chance to meet the Rock and enjoy a nice glass of milk, after we Rock Bottom a few aliens together.
As always, thanks for reading.

T-Shirt Thursday!
In honor of Fandads working with Milk this month, this weeks shirts are milk themed from our friends over at Threadless.com. The shirt "Cookie Loves Milk" was designed by Jess Fink and is a great choice for this week, because what goes better with an 8 ounce glass of milk but some delicious chocolate chip cookies or any type of cookie for that matter.
Our second shirt titled "The Milky Way" was designed by Budi Satria Kwan and may be the answer to how our galaxy was created or at least an interesting dramatization.
Both of these shirts can be purchased through Threadless by clicking on their respective links. Fandads recently went to a picnic thrown by the Threadless crew and we learned a few things.
1. Threadless headquarters is located right here in Chicago.
2. If I were a creative person, I would love to work here.
3. I learned to make buttons with my little girl.
4. I'm good at throwing darts at balloons.
5. I can't wait for the next years Threadless Reunion Picnic.

T-Shirt Thursday!
Todays shirt actually came in the mail from our friends at LootCrate. Lately they have been having some cool shirts in their crates (Deadpool Kool-Aid) and this one goes great with out recent "Brew Over Ice" posts and giveaway. Being fathers and gamers we need all the energy we can get to get us through the day and you know that sleep is something that we can only dream of. This shirt was included in this month's crate thanks to ShirtWoot! and can be purchased on their site for $18.

Brew Over Ice Sweepstakes
I've always had a strange fondness for Keurig brewers, yeah they're really cool and convenient, but they also bring me back to an earlier time. Let me explain...
Back in the 00's I decided to propose to my then girlfriend, but before I could do that I had to get the right ring. That's a topic for another blog, but one of the highlights of my shopping experience was getting to use the Keurig the jewelry store had in their waiting room. I think I had like a Milky Way hot chocolate or something and it was amazing. The whole process was awesome just pop in the K cup and wait a few moments, no fuss, no muss. But I digress...
I love my Keurig so when the Fandads were offered some free products to review I jumped all over it. And, as luck would have it, you're about to start reading said review. But before we get into all that, here's a link for you to participate in the "Brew Over Ice Sweepstakes" where you can win instant prizes everyday and enter for a chance to win $10,000. Also, we included another one to download a $2 off coupon!
We were sent three different flavors of K-cups to sample along with an awesome light up ice bucket, coasters, tongs, and a tumbler. (Which incidentally, we have an extra set of, to give away to one lucky reader!)
The samples were Snapple Peach Iced Tea, Vitamin Burst - Strawberry Pomegranate, and The Original Donut Shop - Sweet & Creamy Regular Iced Coffee

The samples were Snapple Peach Iced Tea, Vitamin Burst - Strawberry Pomegranate, and The Original Donut Shop - Sweet & Creamy Regular Iced Coffee
The first one I tried was the Sweet & Creamy iced coffee, it was an early morning and I thought I could use the kick. I'm not a coffee drinker by any means, but this was just sweet enough for me to be able to tolerate it. I decided to give my wife a drink, who is a coffee drinker and she thought it was a bit too sweet for her. The next flavor I tried was the Strawberry Pomegranate, I was pleasantly surprised, just the right amount of sweetness and had a smooth taste. Apparently it also has vitamins, so that's a plus right?
I intentionally saved the best for last. The Snapple Peach Iced Tea. The joke's on the Brew Over Ice Team because I had already tasted (and developed a short lived addiction to) their Snapple Iced Tea line and it is pretty awesome. I haven't had a Snapple out of the bottle lately but I'd bet that I either couldn't tell the difference or that the K-cup version is even better. The Snapple Iced Teas really hit the spot, they're especially refreshing on a hot summer day.
All of the Brew Over Ice products are quick and easy to brew and I think they're definitely worth checking out, and here's your chance to win a prize pack from the Fandads. Leave us a comment telling us when a nice iced beverage could have come in handy this summer or simply leave us one asking us to hook you up! We'll pick someone at random at midnight CST on Friday the 23rd. Also check out the Brew Over Ice Team on Facebook and/or Twitter. Thanks for reading and good luck!

T-Shirt Thursday!
He's not Mother Teresa but he's not Charles Manson either.
Today's tee comes to use from the creative minds at Black Action Tees. I picked up this one at C2E2 earlier this year along with a few others.
Unlike many companies they offer larger sizes, which is always a plus (no pun intended, well maybe). Here are a few more of my favorites.
These are also pretty good conversation starters so be ready to meet new people while wearing them! Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to hit the gym, my power isn't as "discombobulatingly devastating" as it once was.

We're going to a #SuperMilkMan Twitter Party #Sponsored
In promoting The Rock's milk campaign and The Breakfast Project, the fellas at Life of Dad are going to throw a #SuperMilkMan Twitter Party this Thursday, August 15 at 12 noon EST/11am CST. Why should you attend this party? Did you not look at the picture? There is a 16GB iPad mini up for grabs along with 5 "The Rock-MIlk Gift Packs"! A party where you don't have to leave home and you can win a prize? Sign me up!
(This is a sponsored post and Fandads is being paid by Life of Dad, LLC to be entrants in this contest. So basically, we are being paid to make a fun video about milk and possibly meet The Rock.)
The #SuperMilkMan Twitter Party is going to be hosted by @lifeofdadshow and co-hosted by @tommyriles @ChrisRoutly @CuteMonsterDad and @DiaryDad. So, if you don't follow these guys on Twitter do so now so you can be ready once Thursday comes. If you already are on Twitter why not tell people you are going. Let your friends and family know and use the hashtag #SuperMilkMan to spread the word. Here's a little help:
"We're going to the #SuperMilkMan Twitter Party on Thursday, Aug. 15. NoonEST/11CST" (Tweet This)
As for our video, it is still in the works. Nolan was taking it to a dark place and we want it to be family friendly. Maybe Tarantino is not busy.
So join us Thursday and let's have some fun at this party and if you show up with no pants, no one will judge you.

The Fandads and The Rock...It Could Happen! We are Official #SuperMilkMan Entrants
Thanks to the Life of Dad site we were given a great opportunity to be featured in their "30 Dads, 30 Days" posts earlier this year. Now, again thanks to this site, we are an official entrant in the #SuperMilkMan contest where we can win a trip to hang out with The Rock. Imagine that: Finally, the Fandads meet the Rock in Chi-caaaa-goooo!!! Well, I don't know if that's where we're going to meet, but either way, IT DOESN'T MATTER where we meet. Whatever does happen, the Fandads will go one on one with the great one. (Alright, enough catchphrases.)
So what do we have to do to meet The Rock? We have to make a 10-15 second video on Instagram and post it here, Facebook, Twitter and just spread the word about #SuperMilkMan. Pretty easy right? The question is can we match the ultimate #SuperMilkMan, The Rock? Remember his commercial during the Big Game? (Trying not to get in trouble by using the actual term) Here's a reminder:
I think our video can top this. We are just waiting for Zach Synder to finish the storyboards and then it's showtime. So keep an eye on the space below to witness the awesome that we are creating. (Man, I'm hyping this up too much.)
Now, we're not going to have all the fun of making a video and leave our readers out. You can get in on this too. Here's how: This Thursday, August 15 Noon EST/11am CST, there will be a Twitter Party thrown by Life of Dad (@lifeofdadshow) and co-hosted by @tommyriles @ChrisRoutly @CuteMonsterDad and @DiaryDad. During this twitter party you will have the chance to win one of 5 "The Rock - Milk Prize Packs" (a $98 value). So if you're on Twitter, Follow us @fandads and @lifeofdadshow and use the hashtag #SuperMilkMan to take part in the party, maybe win a prize, learn more about milk and smell what the Fandads are cooking (sorry, I just had to add that one).

T-Shirt Thursday!
Today's shirt is a shirt I picked up a few years ago at Wizard World Chicago and like the Walking Dead/Star Wars shirt we showcased a few weeks ago, it also combines two of my favorite things: Star Wars and Records.
Can you imagine requesting a wack song from this DJ? I think you better keep your request to yourself before he tears your arms out their sockets. This shirt is available on the Stylin website, you know the huge T-shirt booths at mostly every comic convention you go to. If you like the shirt, click on their link and pick one up for yourself today.

New Thor The Dark World Trailer!
The new trailer for Thor The Dark World has been released and its looking pretty good. How will the Loki and Thor team up turn out? Will Loki turn on Thor? Will Jane die? Tune in in November to find out the answers and more. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Get Out Alive and Maybe win a Prize.
How many times have you seen one of those survival shows on the television and thought to yourself, "I can do that." If you were thrown in the wilderness would you be able to survive? Will those video game skills come in handy in the great outdoors? Will you be too occupied looking out for zombies in the woods? If you have been watching "Get Out ALive with Bear Grylls" you might be in for a surprise and see that it's not as easy as it looks.
(Disclosure: This in not a paid post and the prize will be provided by NBC Universal and PartnersHub.)

T-Shirt Thursday!
When it was announced that Disney bought Star Wars we already knew that there was going to be a new princess on the scene. This shirt from ShirtPunch shows what Princess Leia would look like drawn as a Disney princess. I immediately bought two of these shirts for my wife and little girl and they loved them. From the cartoonish R2-D2 to the cuddly Tauntauns and Rancor, this is a Disney princess ready to sing a song for the rebellion or shoot up a stormtrooper. This shirt is still available on redbubble.com for $25.56 in a variety of colors.

Fandad's Short Take "A Day at the Zoo"
As the Merry-Go-Round was moving I let go of the bar of the animal next to me to hold on to the giraffe my little girl was on. She looked at me and told me to not let go of the bar because she did not want me to fall off. She next said that she didn't want me to get hurt because I was her "brave friend, my best friend and I love you and we won't have fun together if you're hurt." I gave her a kiss on the forehead as my eyes teared up and told her I love her too. I held on to that bar as we rode around and around and we both waved happily to my wife when we saw her standing on the side with our little man.
Kids say the damnedest things sometimes.
Thanks for reading,
Victor

T-Shirt Thursday!
Quick post today, lots of exciting things going on, and we'll have plenty to write about soon. Until then, here's this week's tee!
The fine folks at nomanches.net have a nice variety of awesome t-shirts, hoodies, and other swag influenced by Latino culture. This particular design is a play on the iconic Hecho En Mexico image.
I purchased both of these for my girls and they love them. My oldest even learned the word Chicago thanks in part to her shirt! That's it for tonight, to find out more about No Manches Clothing Co. you can visit them here!

We've Only Just Begun!
Hello friends, Fandad Victor here and we just wanted to thank everyone that has been supporting us on the website for the past three years. As you can see, we have been a little behind with posts, but we are hoping to alleviate that situation within the next few weeks. To try to keep us on task, we have hired a new assistant. So far she's been a great help answering phones, taking messages and it doesn't hurt that she has her own laptop.

T-Shirt Thursday!
How do you start a new segment and miss it the following week? Well, we here at Fandads are guilty of doing that, so to make up for our error we have two shirts to share with you today. The first shirt we got through LootCrate and it was part of the June crate. Don't know what LootCrate is? Just click the link to go to their site and sign up to get a box of awesome sent to you every month. Every now and then they have a surplus sale and maybe this shirt will be available again soon.
The second shirt we are sharing is from ShirtPunch and it combines two of our favorite things: Star Wars and The Walking Dead. This shirt is a great ode to Michonne and her pets which are here in robot form. Unfortunately this shirt is not available anymore, but sign up for their daily e-mails to see the awesome shirts they have available that day and at $10 each, it's a steal!

The Father's Day Purge
With the movie The Purge coming out this week, we wanted to do something for the release of the movie. The premise of the movie is that for twelve hours one night of the year all violence is legal. You could do anything you want and not get arrested for it. This got me thinking about about Father's Day coming up. If dads were given one night of the year to do whatever they wanted, what would they do. Read on to see a couple of my ideas and to win a Purge prize pack. (This is a non paid for post.)

What's Going on with The Fandad?
Sometimes our everyday life grabs a hold of us and doesn't let go. This is the situation here with the Fandads. While we are trying to keep the site updated and tease a few posts we are working on here and there, life comes around and kicks us in the behind and puts everything on hold. So what is going on with the Fandads, well he is a quick run down.

Hypocrite
!@#$! YOU! We’ve all heard it before, We’ve all shouted it out at least once or twice. (or 6,394 times as it may be) Colorful language, for lack of a better term, isn’t really all that harmful is it? Sure, some might say it makes a bad impression, or it reflects ignorance. Others think that people who use “swears” only do it because they have no imagination or out of laziness. Yes it’s abrasive, disrespectful, and offensive, but is it that big of a deal?

Happy Mother's Day from the Fandads and Fellow Dad Bloggers.
“The most important thing a father can do for his children is love their mother” - Theodore Hesburgh
"God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers." - Rudyard Kipling
"God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers." - Rudyard Kipling
This Mother's Day we teamed up, because that's what superheroes do, with our Dad Bloggers group to celebrate all the mother's in our lives. This collective card is the brainchild of Scott Behson of the Fathers, Work, and Family blog. Together we can share our celebration for the moms in our lives with our friends and possibly expand this great community of ours.

Angry Birds Star Wars Review and Giveaway.
Being a huge Star Wars fan, I was excited when Hasbro asked us to help out in celebrating May 4th by reviewing a few Angry Birds Star Wars games. While I might get a lot of flack for this, I've never played the Angry Birds games. I have heard about how addicting they were, but I just was never tempted to try them. Once the Star Wars versions came out my interest piqued a little. Nevertheless, I still didn't pick them up. If you're still reading after I dropped that bombshell, thank you for sticking with me and you will be rewarded at the end of this post when I tell you how you can enter to win one of the two games shown above (sorry, the foam flyer, like a gremlin, is only for people who are truly able to handle it).

Comics!
It's Wednesday and you know what that means! Comic book day! I've been really bad about updating, there are a lot of things I'd like to touch on and ideally there are features I'd like to see updated at least on a weekly basis. One of those being a comic book feature. I know that "The Pull Box" is already taken as I'm sure countless other sites and blogs talk about their "Pull Box", so at some point I'll have to come up with something. For the time being, I'll be happy if I can just get on here every week or so to talk (comic) shop.

Thor: The Dark World Trailer
As I mentioned before on here, Spider-Man was my favorite Marvel character and I would pick up other books randomly. I never bought a Thor book, but I was aware of him by cross-overs and other guest appearances. I wasn't expecting much from the first movie, but I liked the story and his introduction to those that may have not known about him. While the movie wasn't the best from the Phase 1 series, it did establish his role in the universe and I think the Avengers movie made people go back and give his stand alone movie another viewing.
With Thor: The Dark World coming to theaters this fall (November 8, 2013) I think we will see a bigger world than was shown previously and maybe get a better story this time around. What the trailer below and share your opinions with us.

Man of Steel Trailer
I am a fan of the original Superman movies. I still remember the tagline of the first movie "You will believe a man can fly!" I feel that the original movie started off kind of slow, but watching it today, I love the build up to him fulfilling his destiny. All the movies were great except for part 4 and part 3 was a little annoying. While many people panned Bryan Singer's take on the classic story, I enjoyed the movie, but felt it did have a few flaws. Now we have Zach Snyder giving us a new version of Superman, and with Christopher Nolan producing this movie, I think this might be the Superman movie that will put our faith back into the man of steel.

Tears of a Clown
Today while going through names with my wife about what to name our mystery kid, (we are waiting for the delivery date to find out the sex) I started crying. Now this wasn't a "I stubbed my toe and I think I broke it" cry, this was more of a "I am having a second kid and it's finally hitting me" cry. Earlier this month I wrote about how I was freaking out about having another child, but tonight something hit me. Something that made me so happy and sad at the same time.

The Pile Just Keeps Growing.
With raising a 3 year old, being a teacher and preparing for a second child in April my gaming time has pretty much gone out the window. Although I try to make time to get in a few games, my pile just keeps growing. Here are a few shots of the games that are piling up. Also, add to this that I haven't picked up my Gears of War: Judgement yet and Bioshock Infinite comes out next week. One good thing is that I am on Spring Break next week, so hopefully I will be able to knock a few of the games of the pile.
The few games that I have played in this pile are Ni No Kuni, Far Cry 3, Dishonored, Nike+ Kinect Training and the Sesame Street Season 1. |
As much as I love the comic and TV show, I have yet to play this game. |

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-Ray Combo Giveaway.
Remember the first time you saw The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and though to yourself, "It would be cool if they can go back and make The Hobbit into a movie". Well, you were not the only one. Peter Jackson has returned to the beginning and has given his fans something that they have been waiting for and has broken this story down into a trilogy too. The first in this series The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is being released on Blu-Ray and DVD this Tuesday March 19 and Fandads is giving away one Blu-Ray/DVD combo to one of our lucky readers.
(Disclosure: This is not a paid post and the Blu-Ray Combo will be provided by Warner Bros.)
Baby Number Two is On the Way, So Why am I Freaking Out!
Lately I have been writing about how my wife and I are expecting our second child in April and how our little girl is excited about having a new brother or sister (we're not finding out the sex of the baby), but while I am confident and all smiles on the outside, inside I am freaking the F*@k out.

My First 5K or Look at Me Trying to be Sporty.
A few posts ago I said that I am going to start being a little more active in my life. With a second child arriving in April, I feel I need to be in better shape to have the energy to keep up with my job, my children and my day to day life. So I signed up for my first 5K and said to myself "Let's do this!"
